How to do Graffiti on paper

PRACTICE IN THAT BLACKBOOK!

When wanting to become a good graffiti writer, it is a good idea to practice how to do graffiti on paper. Making pieces and throw ups in your blackbook is a good way to practice before painting with real spray cans. Writers have throughout time lent out their blackbooks for other writers to paint in them. This is to create a collection of writers they have met in their lives. This means it’s important to know, how to do a burner if you get offered the chance to paint in a person’s blackbook. When drawing on paper with alcohol-based markers, you can’t correct your lines after-wards. You have to focus on making the right choices at all times. A good guideline to follow, is to always start drawing the lightest colors and then go to the darker. This is because they can cover the lighter ones and not the other way around. Avoid using sticky paint such as spray paint or oil paint in your blackbook. This will make the pages glue together and ruin your pieces.

1. Sketching your piece up using a pencil.

2. Draw your outlines with a black alcohol based marker and erase the leftover pencil marks.

3. Fill-in your letters and shadows.

4. Fill-in your background and keyline.

5. Make highlights, and extra details with acrylic based markers. Acrylic based markers will lay on top of the alcohol based lines, so you can paint with them anywhere on the paper.
