KEEP IT SIMPLE

What makes a graffiti tag look great, is something each writer has their own opinion about. Graffiti tags have been developing since the birth of graffiti in New York in the 70’s where TAKI183 put what is known as the first graffiti tags ever on his daily work route. Since then, better materials, more writers and especially the internet has been a part of pushing what is possible in the graffiti world. When you are making your first graffiti tag, make sure to keep it simple – don’t overdo it! you wouldn’t go for the Jimi Hendrix solo right away as a newbie guitar player either, right? Tags should be expressing your personal style – is it agressive with sharp edges? is it bubbly and light? is it narrow or wide letters? do they overlap each other? This is something only you know and should find out by practising, practising, practising over and over again.

“Only one way can take you there. There are no short cut, because you gotta practice. You grow the most on paper. Do sketches in black books and on paper. And paint a lot.” – BATES (AIO, COD, TNB, WCA, FC, ROC, IBM, 156, WR2, PCP)

Here you can see examples of the word “STYLE” made with different tag styles as inspiration for your own tag.
